The ZHIJING M42 Cobalt HSS Slotter Cutting Blade is a premium replacement part built for corrugated carton slotter machines that run double wall board at high speed. M42, also known as W2Mo9Cr4VCo8, is a cobalt high speed steel containing roughly eight percent cobalt, which dramatically improves red hardness, the ability of the steel to keep its cutting edge when friction raises the temperature at the cutting zone. Where ordinary blades soften and wear quickly once the edge heats up, this cobalt alloy steel maintains hardness at elevated temperatures, so slotting stations keep producing clean cuts during long runs of heavy BC and EB flute board, thick 7-ply sheets, and board with abrasive recycled content.
Every M42 blade is hardened through a carefully controlled austenitizing and triple tempering cycle to reach HRC 66-68, then precision ground to tight tolerances. The combination of extreme room-temperature hardness and retained hot hardness means the blade resists abrasive wear and edge deformation at the same time, giving converters noticeably longer intervals between regrinds on demanding applications. When the edge finally needs attention, standard grinding practices restore the blade, and the cobalt steel body can be reground many times over its working life, which makes the higher initial material cost a sound investment for high-throughput plants.

This M42 slotter blade is the first choice for slotting stations on heavy-duty flexo printer slotters, rotary slotters and folder gluer lines that process double wall containers, heavy-duty shipping cases and board grades that generate high cutting resistance. It is particularly valuable in hot climates or summer production, where line speeds and friction push edge temperatures up and shorten the life of standard blades. Beyond slotting, the same M42 cobalt steel can be supplied for creaser knives, slitter knives and rotary cutoff knives, enabling a converter to run one high-performance steel family across the entire corrugator and converting operation with simplified stock holding.
Packaging & Quality AssuranceBecause precision-ground M42 edges are valuable, they are protected with anti-rust oil and rigid edge guards before being packed in carton boxes or plywood cases sized to the blade. ZHIJING operates an ISO9001 quality management system: each batch of M42 steel is verified by spectrometer analysis, hardness is confirmed after heat treatment, and every blade passes a final dimensional and edge inspection before dispatch. Material certificates, test reports and pre-production samples are available on request. Share your machine model, board constructions and blade sizes with our engineers, and we will confirm the correct hardness, geometry and coating option for your production targets.
